ERCOFTAC is a collaboration between European universities, research institutes and industry active in the area of applied fluid mechanics, and strongly promotes scientific research on current issues in this area. A turbulence model is proposed for the prediction of boundary-layer flows near walls. Two differential equations are solved: one for the kinetic energy of turbulence, and one for its length scale. The local effective viscosity in the flow is taken as proportional to the product of the length and the square root of the energy. The method is typically computationally expensive, especially if detailed chemistry mechanisms involving hydrocarbons are used.

Flow turbulence and combustion

The ESCIMO theory of turbulent combustion is applied to a one-step exothermic chemical reaction between pre-mixed fuel and air in a steady-flow well-stirred reactor. The performance is computed as a function of the three independent dimensionless ratios which can be formed from the four characteristic times, namely those of: residence Flow, Turbulence and Combustion About this Publication Instructions For Authors Author Tutorial Reviewer Tutorial System Requirements Register Flow, Turbulence and Combustion - Journal.
